What tools do you need for watercolor painting?
Watercolor painting is a beautiful and versatile technique that doesn't require a lot of equipment, but the right materials can make a big difference in the end result. If you're just starting out, it's a good idea to choose supplies that will make learning easier. Let's take a look at what you'll need!
1. Watercolor paint
Paint can be in tubes, solid (powder) and palette forms. Powder and palette paints are more practical for beginners because they are easy to handle and portable.
2. Watercolor paper
The thickness and texture of the paper are key. Papers with a thickness of 300 g/m² are less wrinkly and can withstand water well. They can be smooth (hot pressed), medium-rough (cold pressed) or rough (rough) - cold pressed is recommended for beginners.
3. Brushes
Watercolor requires soft, flexible brushes that hold water well. Round brushes in various sizes and a flat brush are enough to get you started.
4. Palette
If you are using tube paint, you will need a palette to mix the colors. A simple plastic or porcelain palette or plate will do.
5. Water
You will need a container, such as a mason jar, to fill with water, as we use water for watercolor paint.
6. Paper towel
The paper towel will help soak up excess water and wipe the brush dry.
7. Masking tape
Masking tape helps secure the paper to the table, preventing it from curling.
